With the New York Public Library, what does it mean if it says the book is due and in transit?

I returned my book and when I check my account online it says the book is due 8/4/09 - in transit. I hope this doesn't mean I have to pay for the book!

Not knowing details about the NYPL system, I can only guess:
"In transit" usually means a book is en route to another branch. Chances are you returned the book at a branch other than the owning branch. The book is now on its way to the owning branch, where it will be checked in.
