petite modeling ? how do i start i live in nyc?

hey everyone, thanks for taking your time to answer my question.
im 17 years old and have a strong interest in becoming a model (not runway). im 5'0 tall and 97 pounds i measure 32,22,32. i would love to get into ccatalogmodeling as well as ccommercialetc. now the big question is HOW DO I START?? i live in nyc and im new to this modeling thing i ddon'thave a portfolio so how do i begin all this plz hhelpthanks =D

To start off, it would be good to make a portfolio. The best pictures to start off with are natural ones generally with no make-up, front on headshot, on the side and then full length. The pictures should not be photoshopped or altered in any way but you could add a few professional photos into your portfolio. Being a 5'3 petite model myself, I have learnt that it is a lot better to promote yourself first and make yourself known rather than going through an agency as most major agencies dont really accept models under 5'8 unless they know that you have a few clients that you want to use you . Start by approaching hair salons, local clothing stores and ask them if they need models. It is very hard to make it as a petite model and you have to have a VERY unique look about you and/or you have to have a big personality that captures attention, much like Agness Deyn. In NYC, Ford and Elite models take 'fit' models or 'commercial print' models but as mentioned, it would be advised to start off yourself first. This season, Tyra Banks is only allowing Petite Models into America's Next Top Model (Girls under 5'7) so maybe theres your chance! I have modelled for about a year and know that if you do it right, you can score yourself a lot of jobs. I have been approached by top agencies shortly after promoting myself and have done numerous photoshoots and editorials for major designers and even two runway shows. Dont let anyone get you down. If you really want it, go for it. People who say you cant or put you down are generally girls who are tall but havent gotten anywhere and cant handle seeing a girl whos half a foot shorter than them succeed. Good luck!

OK, let's consider I knew extraterrestrial beings are gonna abduct me and erase my brain 24 hours forward of it going down.
